Japandi Woodland Retreat
Japandi is the decor style that brings the east and west together.... blending Japanese and Scandinavian design into a harmonious meeting of minds. Its ethos to create a soothing uncluttered living space of muted neutral colours. combining the bleached tones of Scandinavian interiors with the gentle elements of Asian living. Here set within the dramatic wooded landscape is my interpretation of a Japandi single storey home where tranquility and natures beauty help create a serene environment and compliments the calm essence of this styles' fundamental principals. This home consists of a hallway, kitchen/ dining room a bedroom, bathroom and sitting room. Most rooms are multi functional and deliberately flow into each other some linked by a semi covered area. The property sits in secluded rocky woods with a large terrace of ornate ponds and outside features.
The bedroom is spacious and has courtyard views. There's ample floor space to include a seating area and leads directly off from the semi covered walkway. The palette is a soothing mix of natural wood, soft greens and gentle off whites.
This home is all about harmony and calm ..it works at bringing the outdoors inside with colours that copy its environment
I love the serene feeling this environment brings to this home.
Scandinavian influences of winter whites blend with Asian inspired pieces to create the Japandi vibe.
The sitting room echos the colour scheme of the previous bedroom area and has large uncluttered proportions with dual aspect doorways out to the terrace area.
Muted colours and gentle lighting help produce an almost sleepy serenity to the room.
This home is rationed strictly to a muted colour palette of organic colours and furnishing that blend into the enviroment.
The heading may say Bathroom.... but these next photos are a selection of shots from the courtyard area that wraps around the home....you will see some walls have textual finishes to add interest with their fluid lines.
A unexpected burst of colour from a Japanese maple can be found as you wander around this garden.
I love this ornate water feature.
A covered seating area complete with outside fire for those chillier days or evenings,
There's a few playful sculptural images throughout the garden.
The long lily pond is an attractive feature of this terrace and runs in front of the kitchen and bedroom areas.
Now under the correct heading is the actual bathroom. It follows the colour scheme of the rest of the interior. The flooring of this home has been deliberately left the same as the outside courtyard to enable the flow of the colours and areas.
Pretty soft green linens add a touch of femininity.
Taken from within the spacious shower this shot shows you the shape and dimension of this bathroom.
Outside again the next three pictures are of the semi covered area that links the kitchen and bedroom.
The hallway is a great example of the gentle vibe this Japandi home strives for and illustrates well how this hybrid interior style works.
The kitchen has a real Asian essence but still encapsulates the principals of Japandi in colours.
A peek into the small dining area of the kitchen.
The multi functional usage and flow of the home illustrated here as you see the walkway through from one area to another.
The dining area with just enough space to seat four.
Looking from the kitchen out through to the lilypond area on the terrace... peace and serenity fills this Japandi home and I really feel the calm sense of the environment seeping in.
Paradise!

Bless you Karen ... and you and all my concrete challengers are often in my thoughts. I'm so very tired these days caring for my mum that I hardly have the energy to design...but i am hoping that this wont be always the case and i can have more free time to see my old friends designs and chat more. Hoping you are well lolxxx
