Sorry for the delay, I had to do something today! I do think you are getting your footing around this design now! I do like it and those little changes have made it much more appealing.
You can leave it as is and it is fine.
But, if you want to elevate it one more level, here's what I would suggest. Color the chess pieces, using one metallic accent color to connect them to the design color scheme. Metal blue 💙 or a metal Gold 🪙 or luminescent blue or gold color. That be an awesome frame
