Cave inspired living
Living in a cave was maybe not the dream of anybody as one would associate it with dark and dingy and full of bats and other scary creatures. So take the tour of this cave inspired house literally build upon and surrounded by rocks deep in a forest. The age old principles of Wabi Sabi was mostly used as design direction: Perfect Imperfection. Dark? Yes, but not dingy. Moody and intriguing and welcoming you into the womb of the earth where Mother Nature prepared a special place for you. The people living here are lovers of nature and of living a good, but simple life surrounded by nature. Nature inspired house build with natural material as main focus. They used what already was and added to that in the most sympathetic way. One bed, one bath, different living spaces indoors as well as outdoors.
This pictures show part of the outdoor living space that was kept mostly intact as it was in nature. They designed and build the house on what already was, adding in the most sympathetic way to the existing rock formations. You'll see that demonstrated in every room of the house.
Walls were kept rustic and with the most natural finishes to let the house flow into nature.
Man: fire: food: eat: survive. The fire pit was built to use an open fire for one of the most basic needs: Cook ! Of course there's also a stove in the kitchen😉😂
The fire pit was surrounded by the rock formations creating smaller caves in which one could disappear if you want to!
The next pictures will show the vast open plan living, dining spaces and the kitchen. In this picture you can see the entrance to the house from below.
Arriving at the top of the stairs you find the different sitting and dining areas and all of that with direct access to the outdoors through rustic sliding doors.
The sliding doors made of wood from the forest.
The dining table was paired with a big couch to catch the beautiful view from the outside.
The glass sky lights was fitted and used as the best source of lighting for day and night, letting the natural light through at any time of the day. You'll find them place strategically in different zones of the house.
What a view!
The kitchen was fitted with ample storage in the cabinets as well as the oversized kitchen island where extra seating was also created. In this house they used green in different tones and textures to highlight certain areas and bring some life in the space. Gorgeous green marble.
The view from the kitchen window
This is a small office area just outside the bedroom hall. You'll notice throughout the space how the rock formations was used to divide spaces in a natural way and to create flow from one area into another.
This area is around the corner from the rock hallway and was decorated as a lovely more private sitting area with a fireplace. Cozy and warm and cool and tranquil all in one package.
See how they kept the rocks and created the effect almost like the rock is bursting through the walls to be part of the conversation!
More of the same gorgeous green marble slab!
Again the rustic oversized wooden doors to give direct access the the outdoors.
Mind how the rock formations was used to create the 'hallway'
This is the gate that gives you access to the house. Pebble and stone pathway leading up to the front door, surrounded by rocks and plants.
A special little corner to welcome guests.
There is the front door of the property. Big and welcoming!
The master bedroom, spacious and with enough wardrobe space. A very special hanging bed and place in a very special place to have a perfect view to the outdoors.
The sun and the moon and the stars......they are all promises by this bedroom!
This is in the bottom floor now where the entrance hall of the house is.
Stone bench to take off your shoes should you want to......
Feel welcome.....because you are!
From the inside of the hallway you can see into the belly of the earth.....
Wide stairs leading you all the way up to where all the rest is waiting for you to enfold.....
The bathroom was fitted with a bespoke hand crafted tub and was also fitted with a rain shower for that extra little lux.
Shower or soak......both options are available....
The view from the bathroom window.....
The vanities was created from river rock and crafted to fit the style of the house perfectly.....
Concrete with marble stone inlays.....the perfect finish for the bathroom walls....and thank goodness there is a toilet!🤣🤣. This is the tour of the cave dwelling: is it a cave or is it not? That is the question.

Ohh what a treat!! This has to be the coolest cave ever! I loved the domed skylights, and that "secret" entrance in the back totally charmed me! I am picturing lying in that hanging bed and looking up at the stars at night, ... the kitchen was perfection, but ohhh that bathroom!!! That's the room I loved most! This is every inch fantastic!
