The project is a contemporary interpretation of a Peranakan home, shaped by memory, craftsmanship, family gatherings, and a tropical garden at its heart. Inspired by the layered heritage of Peranakan culture—where Chinese traditions meet those of the Malay Archipelago and Southeast Asian colonial architecture—the interior combines carved dark wood, collectible porcelain, rattan, brass lanterns, and botanical textiles. Together, they evoke a home that preserves the stories of generations. Patterned ceramic tiles form the project’s defining thread. Peonies, exotic birds, vines, and flowering gardens lead guests from the formal entrance gallery through the living room and dining area to the open inner courtyard. A palette of jade, turquoise, coral, powder pink, cream, and deep timber tones draws on Nyonya ceramics, uniting the flooring, furnishings, textiles, porcelain, and decorative details in an atmosphere that feels both calm and celebratory. The gallery welcomes guests with porcelain cabinets, carved panels, and warm lantern light. The living room becomes a setting for family tea rituals, while the dining room celebrates hospitality through floral arrangements, porcelain tableware, and views into the atrium. At the centre lies a garden with a fountain, palms, ferns, and orchids. Reflections on water and glazed tiles unite greenery, architecture, and decoration into a living ornament. Rather than a literal historical reconstruction, “Nyonya Garden” presents Peranakan heritage as a warm, contemporary, lived-in home expressed through colour, material, pattern, and family memory.

56.10㎡ ＂Bath under the Olive Sun” is a place where sunlight becomes part of the architecture, the fresco becomes part of the wall, and shadow becomes part of the art. In this space, Mediterranean aesthetics are reinterpreted through a contemporary bohemian approach: natural materials, handcrafted textures, aged surfaces and objects with a sense of history create an interior that feels less like a stylistic imitation and more like a fragment of an old house brought back to life. The central fresco depicting an olive grove becomes the visual memory of the space, while the circular skylight transforms natural daylight into a constantly changing work of art. Throughout the day, the pattern of sunlight moves across the fresco, plaster, stone, terracotta and textiles, creating a new atmosphere with every passing hour. Conceptual formula: Mediterranean architecture + contemporary boho + natural materials + fresco art + olive-inspired palette + solar atrium + a living composition of light and shadow. This is an interior not only for the body, but for the senses — a space where one can pause, feel the warmth of the sun, and for a few moments step into another time.

Designed for the ＂Warm Autumn Bedroom＂ challenge, this space is a deeply personal project rooted in a rich artistic and literary heritage. Having grown up in a creative environment and later marrying into a lineage of poets and writers, my life was shaped by magnificent autumn evenings filled with classical music, literature, and legendary Soviet-era opera singers like Bulat Minzhilkiev and Saira Kiyizbaeva. For me, autumn is always the time of harvest—a sacred season of spiritual maturity and creative breakthrough, my own ＂Boldin Autumn.＂ This private bedroom is designed as a bright, sun-drenched sanctuary that seamlessly opens up into a magnificent glass music pavilion. Filled with rich terracotta, mustard, and warm wooden tones, it represents the inner peace of a creator. Here, surrounded by art masterpieces, a grand black piano, and biophilic warmth, one meditates, gathers inspiration, and welcomes the golden autumn light. It is a breathing safe haven filled with cozy hygge vibes.

The concept combines soft neutral tones, natural wood and light stone surfaces to create a calm contemporary atmosphere without making the space feel cold or overly minimal. The large central island becomes the heart of the room: a place to cook, gather and slow down. Integrated appliances keep the cabinetry visually clean, while the variation between smooth finishes and natural wood adds depth without overwhelming the composition. I wanted the space to feel refined but comfortable — a kitchen where every element has a purpose, yet nothing competes for attention. Subtle lighting, warm textures, simple lines and carefully chosen decorative details complete a space that feels timeless, functional and genuinely lived in. For me, contemporary design is not about removing personality. It is about creating enough visual calm for materials, proportions and daily life to speak for themselves.
