Gilded Villa
Gilded Villa provides a home for retirement onward. It allows the aging and elderly a place to feel at home in all the later stages of life, without having to move from place to place as their needs change. They never have to feel like they are living in a hospital room. Services are provided depending on an individual's needs, including landscaping, cleaning, laundry, cooking, on-call nurse, and a live-in nurse. Welcome to Gilded Villa!

There are four homes connected to the center fountain area. They are each unique in style, but yet share some of the same materials for all to be cohesive. This arrangement is meant to provide a sense of community. Gilded Villa hosts many events and entertainment for its residents.

Space Showcase 49 Renders
There are no stairs in this design. All is on one level. There is ample room for a walker or even a wheelchair to navigate through the space. All doors and doorways are extra wide and operate automatically at the push of a button. Rugs would be inset into the floor to avoid tripping hazards.
The color palette is calm neutrals with various shades of green and touches of purple. As the home is made to accommodate transitions in life, chairs can be moved for easier wheelchair access if that becomes a need. To the left is the mudroom and to the right is the hobby room.
The living space has a connected mudroom leading in from the garage. The doorways connecting the two are aligned for easy access. As the home is made for all the transitions in life following retirement, the garage can be used by the homeowners, the live-in nurse, or visiting or live-in family.
I wanted to create a home that would cater to the needs of the elderly, yet still allow them to feel completely at home without having to move every time there is a transition in their mobility or needs.
The living room opens to a back deck, which sits over a pond for relaxing mornings and evenings outside.
Every seat not at a table has arms to assist the elderly when they stand up from sitting. The furniture chosen was carefully selected to make sure that it also wouldn't sit too deep or too low as those would be problematic for the elderly.
Even the barstools sit at a lower height than typical, so as to still be of use to the elderly without posing a challenge for them.
The view into the dining room. The large windows of the dining room let in extra light. A storage unit sits low in the event that a person will need a wheelchair. It will be easier to access than higher storage areas.
Hobby Room
Again, since this home is a transitional home for all the later stages of life, a hobby room is included to allow every person to continue doing all those projects that they love for as long as possible.

The master closet allows extra room for a wheelchair or walker to enter and exit as well as a bench seat for putting on shoes and the like.
This is an exterior view of the majority of the villa. Each path off of the center leads to an individual home. Each home is of varying style and size, yet all are made to feel connected to the space to create a cohesive look and a community feel.

This is a view of the showcase home and the asymmetrical modern home. The fountain at the center has benches all around for visiting with other members of the community or for sitting with family that is visiting.

The back of the home features a beautiful place to sit and enjoy retirement onward.
Planters spread throughout the back deck provide another opportunity for the elderly to have a hobby planting their own flowers or herbs if they so choose. If not, or if it becomes too much to handle, the service would be provided to care for the plants.
Planters and planter boxes sit up higher for easy access for the elderly.

Master Bedroom
The master bedroom. The bed sits higher for easier in and out. The head and foot of the bed can be raised and lowered as the needs of the individual change.
A sitting area that is more for a nurse or family member offering their care. The bathroom is attached.

The master bathroom features an extra large walk-in shower made to accommodate wheelchairs if ever necessary. A seat and a handlebar are also included in the shower to make bathing less of a hazard for falls.
The toilet sits directly next to the entry with a wide open area around it to maneuver as needed to get situated.
Bathroom
The guest bathroom for visitors, live-in family, or live-in nurses.
Collected and cherished artwork and pictures have been hung throughout the home.

Storage
A storage room sits beyond the hobby room and is also connected to the garage. This allows an easy place to store gardening equipment, important papers, mementos, and holiday decorations. It also makes it an easy place to bring things into the home after purchase, and remove them as needed.
The storage area is also connected to the back deck. This makes it an easy back and forth area for gardening on the back deck without dragging things through the rest of the home.

Bedroom
The guest bedroom serves multiple purposes. It can be a play-zone for grandchildren, but also a place for relatives or nurses to stay as needed.
Mirrors on either side of the bed reflect even more light into the space.
