MCM Inspired Downtown Apartment
This is an apartment in a downtown high-rise. The design style is Mid Century Modern inspired, and the color palette is navy, rust, wood tones, and neutrals. The one bedroom, one and half bath apartment features a large open concept floor plan and an attached outdoor terrace and pool.
The exterior of the high-rise apartment building.
Outdoor infinity pool lined with glass barriers for additional safety without obstructing the view. Steps lead down to an outdoor dining area and the sunken living room.
Outdoor pool and terrace seating area. The sliding doors lead to the primary bedroom.
View from the seating area on the terrace.
Outdoor dining with beautiful sunlight filtering in.
Inside the sunken living room with many MCM-esque pieces. The stairs lead up to the kitchen/dining area.
Another view of the sunken living room facing the media center. This view highlights the color scheme of the deep rust and deep navy.
A cozy place to sit and read while you have your coffee.
View of the kitchen/dining as well as the entryway, office, and laundry. The kitchen features an island with rounded edges and decorative posts to add interest to the look. The office has glass sliding doors and is located near the front entrance for easy access for clients.
View of the deep rust sofa and the gorgeous view of the city.
Looking down the hallway that leads to the primary bedroom and the powder room. The addition of many plants helps bring life into the space.
View upon walking into the apartment.
View from the hallway. Little pops of rust and blue continue the color scheme, while neutrals take center stage.
Closer view of the laundry room with a sink for pre-soaking stains.
View of the interior of the office. The office features a deep moody blue contrasted with bright whites, gold and redish wood tones.
The powder room pulls in the blue and rust palette again and provides and opportunity for more unique design choices.
The primary bedroom features a decorative glass partition to bring a lot of character into the space. The bedroom features more neutrals and blues rather than rust to keep everything feeling very calm and soothing.
The patio doors lead out to the pool area. Rusts are brought into the space solely with the brick wall and the rusty metal upper wall finish.
A large built-in cabinet provides storage for additional bedding and other needed items.
The fireplace sits directly across from the bed.
Past the bedroom lies the closet/vanity area.
Here is a space dedicated to getting ready. This space functions as a closet and vanity area. An oversized ottoman is perfect for sitting to put on shoes or throwing things on top of as you are changing. Again more storage is provided with additional cabinetry.
Further beyond is the shower and bathroom facilities. Along the right wall is a unique feature of sliding doors with shelving for additional storage of shoes, toiletries, towels, etc.
The bathroom sink sits adjacent to the sliding storage for easy access. The vanity has rounded corners to counter the straight edges of the sliding storage area.
The shower features light and dark tiles to keep it feeling bright and sophisticated. The stool in the shower brings in a bit of the rust color tone.
Another view of the office bookshelves. Two chairs provide an opportunity to meet with clients in this office.
While working, there is a beautiful view of the city to look to whenever you need a break from staring at the screen.
The office has sliding doors that open to both the front entry and to the main kitchen/dining. If a client visited the office, they could walk in directly after entering the apartment.
Another up-close image of the powder room with its more quirky features.

Hi there! I would love to help you out! 😊 There are a few ways you can create a lower level. If you are in the "Create Room" menu, you will find a "Sunken Ground" feature that lets you create a rectangular space that sits lower than the rest of the floor. You will be able to adjust the height of this area as well. However, it is limited in that it only creates a rectangular shape and doesn't work great if you are trying to put two different sizes of sunken ground side by side or if you want to remove the walls, say for something like an outdoor patio area.
The other option to create a lower area is using Interior Modeling 2.0. This option allows for much more customization. It is definitely more time consuming when you are first starting out and learning the tools, but it does get easier, and it lets you create a space closer to your vision.
If you are creating a lower interior area and you want to use Interior Modeling 2.0, you will need to first be in 2D and click anywhere outside of your design. You should see an option in the right-hand tool bar that says, "Edit Floor." When you click on this you are able to adjust your floor without changing where the walls are. This will leave an opening in the floor for you to create your lower level. Again this only allows for a rectangular cut-out, but you can build off of that shape with curved lines using Interior Modeling 2.0. It may take some trial and error to get it just right.
If you are doing an outdoor area, you won't need to edit the floor. You can just start building off of your design in whatever way you'd like and use the extrude tool to raise and lower portions of your creation, but remember that when you are in Interior Modeling 2.0, you are just seeing the outline of the floor plan, not the wall thickness. The best thing to do when starting out is to frequently go back and forth between your model and the standard view to check and make sure that everything is looking just how you want it.

Mary, you are always so kind! Thank you so very much!!😊😊 Believe it or not, I started this space with an entirely different vision in mind. I was going to step out of my comfort zone and make it super quirky and colorful, but my brain just kept pulling me to something way more subtle. I will have to give the quirky style a try some other time. 😆
