#EmptyRoomContest - Light Living
The use of soft textures to separate areas of living create an 'airy' and 'gentle' feel to this floor plan. Curtains separate the bedroom from the rest of the space in a way which was not intrusive or harsh to the design. I then carried this on with the use of a curtain to close off the bathroom.
Setting the kitchen into a wall helps to make it feel less intrusive and creates softer lines.
I chose a textured wallpaper on the curved wall to make a subtle difference to the rest of the space.
When designing the space, I thought about the fact that many people require an office area in their homes. However, I did not want the work area to feel out of place so I set the desk into the wall and added shelving to maximise the practical use of the area.
Due to the bedroom area being smaller than average, I wanted this to continue the idea of practicality but also calming. Using different shades, textures and materials, this is inviting yet practical. Shutters juxtapose the curtains, establishing a likeable contrast.
Wall niches inspired from the bedroom are repeated in the bathroom. This created extra storage and makes a feature of this wall.
