modern magical witchy cabin
This is an actual design for my sister. She loves dark moody rooms and collecting oddities. She told me she wanted this room to feel magical and cozy.
This room is on the upper floor and is meant to be a multipurpose room to be used as an office, library, study, storage area, sewing room, and even as a place to do yoga. It needed serve all these purposes while looking appropriate to her style.
The bench seat greets you as you get to the top of the stairs and immediately sets the mood for the rest of the space.
The ceiling is full of angles, and being that she is in an old farmhouse with a lot of uneven lines, I opted to paint the entire ceiling and short walls black. The rest of the walls are in a warm dark gray.
I put her desk in a position in which she could see outside while she is working at her laptop. The beams have twinkle lights attached to add to the magical element she requested.
As an old farmhouse with a lot of drafts, I added a space for her to keep a sweater on hand for when she finds she's getting extra chilly. The robe is standing in place of an old Victorian white lace dress which will go on a form that she occasionally uses for sewing projects.
The shape of the screen behind the form is to hint at the woods while pulling in more of the subtle green color that she loves. The lamp on the buffet represents one that she already owns that she wanted to include.

Thank you! I actually helped my sister style this room of hers in real life according to this design using mostly second-hand items. It was surreal to be in the room as we were bringing in the furnishings and decor because it was so similar to the virtual space I had created here. It felt like I should be able to click and drag the items around the room. 😂
