How to get 2 floors to fit together with a "common edge" to "connect the surfaces"?

I created 1 floor first, then another below it, and I can't get them to match together to have a "common edge" to connect the surfaces. When I adjust the size dimensions, I can't determine exactly which direction a wall's change in size will go, so they're unable to match sizing directly above and beneath each other.
