When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Acts 2:1 On the day of Pentecost, what the Lord Jesus had promised to the disciples before His ascension was fulfilled: “You shall be baptised with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:5). Luke gives a detailed account of what happened: “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them” (Acts 2:2–3). Through this event the assembly (church) of God came into being. The Apostle Paul teaches us about this: “By one Spirit we were all baptised into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13). When the Holy Spirit came to earth, He united the redeemed into one body, forming the assembly. Since then, everyone who has believed in the person and work of the Lord Jesus has been sealed with the Holy Spirit. Thereby he has become a member of the body of Christ and also belongs to the assembly of God. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit also came to earth to dwell in each redeemed individual. The fact that the Spirit of God dwells in every believer personally is true even to this day. The Apostle Paul confirms this to us: “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you?” (1 Corinthians 6:19).
